  •  Superintendent Contract with Dr. Deborah Gonzalez Finalized

    On March 26, 2024, the Phoenix Elementary School District Governing Board voted to finalize the superintendent contract of Dr. Deborah Gonzalez.

    Dr. Gonzalez has served as the Interim Superintendent of Phoenix #1 since November 2023. Prior, she served as the District’s Chief Academic Officer for three years. 

    “After almost four years at Phoenix #1, I have seen the very best of our district and community,” Dr. Gonzalez said. “Our community is supportive, compassionate and believes in our students. I’m honored to continue my service to our District in this role.”

    Dr. Gonzalez was the Assistant Superintendent for Phoenix Union High School District for four years before serving as the Chief Academic and Innovations Officer at ASU Preparatory Academies. She also previously served as the Executive Director of Leader Development for the Tempe Union High School District. She has served as a state and national educational leader for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Dr. Gonzalez has worked in all levels of K-12 education as a teacher, administrator, curriculum developer, and district level leader. 

    “I thank our Phoenix #1 Governing Board, staff and community for trusting and supporting me as I continue working alongside our team to strive for student success,” Dr. Gonzalez adds. “I love our students and team. I’m excited for the opportunity to lead our district into the future.”

    The contract begins with the 2024-2025 school year and will last for three years.
